Unable to burn the idea of silver scrota (the little known superhero...SILVER SCROTA!! It's a bird! It's a plane! IT'S SILVER SCROTAAAAA!...) I wanted to share some pictures from this weekend's Festival of Books here in Los Angeles.
Just a little bit of setting for you..because I'm a writer and I feel it is my duty to really set the stage for you.
It was 3,000 degrees yesterday.
Moving on.
Megan and I showed up to her Border's Signing early to be met with:
From the back:
Harlan Coben
Joanne Harris
John Lescroart
I mean...what the? This was like the other year when I sat exactly where Michael Connelly had been. Sigh.
Then we checked out the Book Soup Booth where I was signing later that day.
My entire signing was marred with this statement," Can you get me the...yeah, Liza Palmer...next to The Trauma." I couldn't get away from Trauma, apparently.
Then the real highlight of the day.
Megan and I were sitting on the steps of the library on the beautiful UCLA campus in the one shady spot waiting for our signing times - me with my new lover: a big, beautiful glass of lemonade. This woman rolled up with what I thought was a baby in a stroller. Nope. A dog. (and not the only strollered canine, i assure you) Then another woman came up. The exact same dog.
And then they met.
Below is the meeting of Nugget (on the left) and Harry James Potter. They're both 6 months old.
Right?!?!? Cutest. Ever.
Then it was time for Megan's signing and well...
I then signed over at the Booksoup booth where I had the ridiculous serendipity to be signing right before Francesca Lia Block. It was...well, it's kind of what this festival is all about. Seeing your heroes up close.
And for the Monday Music...I'm obsessed with two people right now. Leona Lewis and Billy Joel. I know, right? totally schizophrenic. Well, I used to drive around, back in the day, to that Billy Joel's Greatest Hits album, you know the one...the greyish one with him on the front? And I just...well, I got nostalgic.
So, here's two songs for you. One by Leona and one by Billy.
Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
(this is a weird live version, but she's incredible...)
Billy Joel - You May be Right

It sounds like you and Megan had good fun and met some great people!! I don't envy you being out in that heat though. :)
Seriously, the heat was no joke. IS no joke, and our air conditioning is broken...
It's actually the festival that brings it - it was 20 degrees cooler just days ago.
Yes, and it's supposed to break later this week. I really don't know why the festival is always, always, so freaking hot!
Maybe it's the electric energy generated by so many talented people all in one place. :) I guess it wouldn't be fair to tell you it's just 60* up here in WA!
I will kill you, Lee. I. Will. Kill. You.
It's totally festival specific...like a El Nino type of deal, right?!?!
Thanks for sharing the festival. Crazy heat though. Cute dogs but I'm not with the stroller thing. What's with tha?. Adopt a baby or borrow one. Is that mean? Probably. Someones going to come and snatch my dog now.
